Over the years I have been blessed with opportunities that have profoundly shaped my artistic journey, but few have had the impact of spending time learning directly from Robert Hagan.

For more than five decades, Robert has built an extraordinary career as a professional artist. His paintings are collected around the world, his workshops have inspired thousands of artists, and his distinctive approach to painting figures has become instantly recognisable.

When I first stepped into Robert's studio, I expected to learn a few new techniques.

What I discovered was something far more valuable.

I gained access to a complete way of thinking about painting.

I watched how Robert approached design, storytelling, colour, atmosphere, composition, and the human figure. I filled notebooks with observations. I photographed demonstrations. I asked questions. I studied every brushstroke and every decision.

After returning home, I realised I had a choice.

I could keep this knowledge to myself and use it solely to advance my own career as an artist.

Or I could share what I had learned with other painters who shared the same passion for figurative art.

I chose the second path.

That decision ultimately led to the creation of the Figure Painting Academy.

Today, artists from around the world can access the same principles, methods, and artistic insights that Robert generously shared with me over many years of study and mentorship.
